Because Google Translate Doesn’t Do Akkadian

Ever wondered what those ancient texts really say? Whether you're drawn to Sumerian, Akkadian, Biblical Hebrew, or Middle Egyptian, our language classes guide you through the symbols, structures, and stories behind the script, one logical step at a time.

These courses are welcoming, structured, and designed to make ancient languages feel entirely possible (because they are). No prior experience needed just curiosity, commitment, and maybe a notebook.

Language classes - Live and on-demand

“Without Digital Hammurabi I'd still just be wishing I could read Sumerian texts, and now I can, so thank you very much.”

How does this work?

You might be thinking that it's impossible to learn a whole language in one course - and you'd be right! Our language classes run on a 4-course cycle, starting with the basics and ending with a guided reading class. Don't want to commit to all 4 courses? No problem! You can simply sign up for the first course, and then move onto the second whenever you're ready.

Enjoy learning with a live instructor? We open registration for live courses as soon as the are scheduled, so please sign up to the notification list above.

Prefer on-demand lessons that you can fit around your schedule? We're in the process of recording and editing on-demand language classes, so please sign up for our on-demand notification list below.

"That there is a Hopkins-trained Sumerologist with top-notch teaching methods (especially compared to typical university courses) available online, and for substantially less money than an equivalent course at an academic institution, is beyond amazing."
